Our Baby Shower November 2014

Well this one has been very delayed!  With silly season, finishing off the nursery, Alfie's birth and settling down into (some sort of) routine, getting this blog back into the swing of things has certainly taken its time!

For our baby shower we wanted to have a relaxed afternoon with all our closest friends and family. We had cigars and drinks outside for all those who wanted to celebrate that way, and inside we had a feast of different canapes, finger foods and desserts.

Decorations were organised by myself, and I wanted to incorporate a few of my favourite things like dream catchers, teepees and feathers along with my favourite colours - peach and turquoise. I did my research to ensure that my decorations and theme was in no way culturally insensitive to the American Native people before proceeding with the decorating, making sure that we respected the objects and practices of the many different tribes of Native America.

Leading up to the day Jeremy and I had a major secret that we decided to reveal to everyone at the shower - we had both known from the anatomy ultrasound earlier in the pregnancy that our little bubba was in fact a boy. As a compromise, because I didn't want to know at all, we decided that we would find out but keep it a secret to ourselves until the baby shower. A few weeks before the shower I organised for a white cake to be made, with instructions to the chef to dye the inside of the cake bright blue. That way when we cut the cake everyone could find out together the exciting news. Seriously this was the hardest secret to keep, trying to keep a straight face all those months when people gave their opinion on the gender.  I enjoyed hearing all the wives tales and reasons why Alfie was a girl or a boy, it was very amusing!

It was great day, and we got very spoilt with all the gifts and cards. Alfie's nursery was stacked full with toys, nappies and clothes! Very blessed :)

So here it is, the day that was our baby shower - enjoy!
